Do you ever catch yourself thinking, “I hate how I look”?
If so, you're not alone. As a coach working with professionals in the City of London, I see this more often than you might think. Body dissatisfaction isn’t just a superficial issue. It can drain motivation, damage self-esteem, and stop people from taking action altogether.
But there’s a mindset shift that makes a huge difference:
Exercise for performance, not punishment.

Rather than seeing workouts as a way to burn off food or fix perceived flaws, what if we focused on building strength, improving fitness, or mastering a new movement?
When clients shift their attention from how their body looks to what it can do, they start to feel pride. They become more consistent. They build a better relationship with exercise — and more importantly, with themselves.
Training for performance, eating for performance, and sleeping for performance help us.... perform better.
Ironically, the aesthetic adaptations people are often after come form performing better.
So next time you're tempted to criticise your reflection, ask instead:
How strong am I today?
What can I do now that I couldn’t a month ago?
How far have I come in my commitment?
Your body deserves more than criticism. It deserves respect and recognition for what it does for you every single day.
